requirements of logical relation between the subject and predicate are complex, such as the numbers and aspect. When some Chinese students translate Chinese into English, they may often ignore them. Great attention should be paid to it. Obeying the basic rules of English grammar plays an important role of the smooth translation. Besides, we also pay heed to the passive sentence structure. Look at the following examples. They all make a difference with passive voice. Professor Xu Tongqiang made a compare to the subject-prominent structure. He said that subject and predicate are like two columns, on which a girdle is built, that is, the agreement of subject and predicate. Therefore, the subject-predicate structure are restricted by the grammar rules.
(1)我们的大学能够进入中国十所最大的大学。
Our university can be listed in the biggest 10 universities in China.
(2)他的讲座不仅局限于教学法。
His lecture didn’t confine only to teaching methods.

The restriction of the English structure grammar also emphasize that the subject should share logical relation with peripheral modifier, that is, the subject of peripheral modifier should enjoy the same subject of sentence. In C—E translation, we should avoid such kinds of mistakes.

All the first sentences of the sentences above are wrong, because of the neglect of the grammar rule.
In spite of the restriction of the subject-predicate grammar, the collocation between the subject and predicate must be taken into account. As we all know, the habitual way of S-P expression in English and Chinese differentiates from each other. The expression we use in daily conversation may sound unpleasant if literally translated into English.
(1)发挥社会主义制度能够集中力量办大事的优势.
* Display the strength of socialist system of concentrating our forces on major
Under the socialist system, we have the advantage of being able to concentrate our forces on major task.
(2)我们国家的建设事业不仅仅需要的是工程师和科学家,同样需要各行各业的能工巧匠。

(4)人们的生活离不开电视。
* Now people’s life can’t leave TV.
Now it is impossible for people to live without TV.
(5)我感到学习非常进展紧张。
* I feel college studies are quite busy.
I feel quite busy with college studies.
(6) 他身体很弱,但思路敏捷。
* His body is weak but his spirit is good.
He is physically weak but mentally sound.
(7)由于他的病没有痊愈,今天心情不好。
