, the thesis analyzes how these pragmatic identities adapt to the communicative context. The main research results are as follows: 

From the perspective of quantitative analysis, as for the whole thesis, the total number of interactional meta-discourses in the first season of The Big Bang Theory is 2,123.  The frequency of each kind of interactional meta-discourse that orders from highest from lowest is self-mentions, engagement markers, boosters, hedges and attitude markers. Self-mentions are used for 714 times, accounting for 33.63%; engagement markers are used for 543 times, accounting for 25.58%; boosters in the third rank, with 362 times, occupying 17.05%; hedges place forth, with 315 times, accounting for 14.84%; attitude markers are used least, with 189 times, occupying 8.90%. 

As for the three main characters, the distribution of interactional meta-discourses can be seen as follows. First, for Sheldon, the frequency of his usage of interactional meta-discourses that orders from highest from lowest is: self-mentions (231times, taking up 36.90%), engagement markers (135 times, 21.57%), boosters (125 times, occupying 19.97%), hedges (73times, taking up 11.66%), attitude markers (62 times, accounting for 9.90%). Second, for Leonard, the frequency of his usage of interactional meta-discourses that orders from highest from lowest is self-mentions (191times, accounting for 31.83%), engagement markers (160times, taking up 26.69%), boosters (93 times, taking up 15.50%), hedges (91times, occupying 15.17%), attitude markers (65 times, occupying 10.83%). Finally, for Penny, the frequency of her usage of interactional meta-discourses that orders from highest from lowest is self-mentions (209times, taking up 33.33%), engagement markers (176times, accounting for 28.07%), boosters (101times, accounting for 16.11%), hedges (98times, occupying 15.63%), attitude markers (43times, 6.86%).
