Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Research Background
National cultural image is an essential component of a country’s overall image,representing its cultural traditions,behavior,and strength.It not only reflects a country’snational quality and cultural creativity,but also reflects a country’s cultural influence in theworld.National cultural image is defined as the overall recognition and evaluation of acountry’s cultural values,cultural traditions,cultural behaviors,and cultural achievements bythe public at home and abroad.With the deepening of economic globalization,the nationalcultural image has increasingly become an important content and an important means of acountry in international competition,and an important mark to measure a country’sinternational status and influence.National image is not only the manifestation of a country’scomprehensive strength but also the demonstration of a country’s soft power.With theacceleration of the global integration process,Chinese comprehensive national strength hasbeen improving.As China has a growing influence on the international political stage,theexport of cultural soft power has become an urgent task.In recent years,the Chinesegovernment has invested significant attention and resources to enhance Chinese cultural softpower and promote Chinese culture worldwide.This has included various policies andmeasures to improve the international dissemination of Chinese culture,such as producingdocumentaries and propaganda videos to promote Chinese language and culture overseas.These efforts are aimed at boosting Chinese cultural influence globally and enhancing theinternational competitiveness of Chinese culture.
1.2 An Introduction to Festive China
Festive China is an official festival propaganda video,released on the official websiteof China Daily in 2020.It is the first propaganda video that thoroughly introduces Chineseseven traditional festival and twenty-four solar terms in English.Moreover,China Daily isthe most official English website supervised by the Information Office of The State Councilof China.It is one of the key national news websites.It serves the middle and high-endreaders at home and abroad,and is the first choice for overseas people to understand China.It has many sub-sites such as China,,Biz China,Metro Beijing,World,Opinion,Regional,Sports,Entertainment,Culture,Life,Forum,Video,Photo,e-shop.It has become an onlinebridge between China and the world.Festive China is downloaded from Culture-ChinaDaily.com,whose interface is shown as figure1-1:

2.1 Previous Studies of Chinese Cultural Image
This section will first elaborate the definition of national cultural image in the previousstudies and then sort out the three main branches in researching national cultural image athome and abroad.
