World cultural exchange is an undeniable trend.As a student of Translation,it isnecessary to participate in this era,to arouse the resonance between different cultures,andto discover the diversity and coexistence of the world’s languages and cultures.Althoughtechnology has facilitated language communication,literature requires a deeper level ofspiritual communication.

The material for this translation practice was recommended by her supervisor Wang,and five of us worked together to translate the novel.In the early stage,Supervisor Wangsuggested that each of us find a few English novels that have not yet been translated intoChinese,and then the translator found many books,like Elsewhere,Dogland,The Gospel ofthe Knife,Life is Pinball,and other novels and then we decided that each of us should readone book respectively,and analyzed them in one week.Finally,we met again to discussand decide to translate Dogland together.After reading the whole book,I chose Chapter 4as the source text for my E-C translation practice.The fourth chapter has 12,236 words intotal,and the translated Chinese version is about 23,000 characters.

The author,Will Shatterly,born in 1955,is an American fantasy and Science fictionwriter.He won the Minnesota Book Award for Fantasy&Science Fiction for his novelElsewhere(1991).His work often reflects his personal experiences,including theDogland，inspired by his parents’business.He has stated that Dogland is his best work.Hewas a finalist with Nevernever(1993);both books are set in Terri Windling’s TheBorderland Series shared universe.He has also written short stories for various Borderlandanthologies.
