4.1.1 Lack of Obvious Connection

Words form sentences and sentences form paragraphs,thus forming the whole content(Ren,2023:60-84).In interpreting practice,a lack of obvious connections can lead to unclearcommunication of information,difficulties in audience comprehension,and insufficientcoherence in expression.Obvious connections involve the use of appropriate transitionalwords,phrases,and structures to make relationships between sentences,paragraphs,anddialogues more distinct and fluid.Hoey identified typical sentence relationships,includingcausal relationships,contrast relationships,general-specific relationships,and chronologicalrelationships(Hoey,1983).The challenge in understanding Chinese sentences lies in thelogical relationships among various clauses.Therefore,the study into the lack of obviousconnections becomes a prominent aspect of this report.Through this simulated interpretingpractice,the author has compiled several sentences lacking obvious connections,as follows:

Conclusion

This practice report is guided by the interpretive theory,which focuses on the meaning oflanguage rather than the shell of language.It emphasizes that translation should bemeaning-centered and focus on the process of understanding and expression.In the process ofinterpreting,“deverbalization”is the key to processing the source language.For semantictranslation and communicative translation,semantic translation focuses on the structure andmeaning of the source language,while communicative translation pays more attention to theaudience’s reaction and understanding of the message.Therefore,in this interpreting practice,the author mainly focused on communicative translation and semantic translation as asupplement.The two complement each other and the author chooses the appropriate strategiesand skills based on the specific situation.

In the process of interpreting,preparation is the key to successful interpreting.Understanding the nature,format,requirements,audience and content of the mission isessential.For the interpreting of this documentary,the background knowledge and culture inrelated fields such as wildlife protection,environmental natural science and social ethics havebeen fully prepared,which is crucial for the accuracy and fluency of the interpreting.

Another key factor is communication with the audience and tutor.Author’s interpretingskills have continuously improved through real-time feedback,written feedback,professionaltutor feedback and peer feedback.This feedback not only provided a better understanding ofauthor’s own strengths and weaknesses,but also provided the author with valuable guidance.
