[摘要]Malapropism指词语的可笑的误用。它的特殊形式及内涵使它在某种程度上具有不可译性。然而 ,如果以信息等效理论为基础 ,我们仍然能提出一些适用于英语误用词翻译的基本原则。
Abstract :Malapropism ,a humorous misapplication of a word or a phrase , with its special form and implication , is in possession of untranslatability to a certain extent . However , the five basic principles set up here on the basis of the theory of in formation equivalence , are available for translating English malapropism.

1“…There’ s not a man in the Country O’S outh - Wessexthat’ s g ot grander and nobler skilletons in his family than I.”“Oh ?”“Now take up that basket , and g oo on to Marlott …”(Tess of D’ urbervilles , P. 17)例2“Y es , and y ou ,”she added , catching the eye of one ofthe policemen.“Y ou bloody , murtherin’thafe ! Crack my s on overthe head , will y ou , y ou hard - hearted , murtherin’divil ?Ah…”(Sister Carrie , P. 507)两例的译文分别为:例1原译: “……
Webster’ s Third New International Dictionary对它作了以下解释:“A usu. humorous misapplication of a word or a phrase ;speci fy. blundering use of a word that s ounds s omewhat like the oneintended but is ludicrously wrong in the context .”Longman Companion to English Literature 将它定义为:“Acomic misuse of language , usually by a pers on who is both preten2tious and ignorant .”A G lossary of Literature and Composition的释义为: “An inap2propriate word or expression that only s ounds s omething like the oneintended…Except when used deliberately for humor , malapropismresults from a careless acquaintance with words or a con fusion abouttheir meanings.” 综合三家之言 ,可以看出:Malapropism就是利用英语中词语的近音、 象形、 异义 ,有意或无意地误用词语 ,以达到诙谐、 讽刺、 仿真的效果。一言蔽之 ,Malapropism就是可笑地误用词语。如把 “Lead the way and we’ ll proceed” 说成 “Lead theway and we’ ll precede” ,把 “I had a sensational time” 说成 “I had asensaysh time” 便属此例。
