Analysis:Two passive voices appear in this sentence,using passive voice with makers“受”and“被”in the TT.As mentioned in Chapter 2,Chinese passive voice sentences have various forms consisting of“被”“受”“让”“为......所”“由......来”,and so on.The reasonwhy“is driven by”is transformed into“受...驱使”,is to emphasize the agent“extremeachievement”.Then,the TT is a complex sentence with many words,while Chinese oftenuses short sentences to express ideas.So translator converts long sentences in ST into severalshort sentences in the TT.

5 Conclusion

In this report,the author has completed all tasks including translation,proofreading,topic selection,text analysis,and so on.Therefore,the author has gained deeper experienceand understanding of this translation work.The selected text of the report belongs to civilaviation text,which contains quite a lot of terminologies and frequently uses passive voicesentences.

After finishing the whole translation process,the translator concluded that passive voicesentences in civil aviation text often uses inanimate subjects and the sentence pattern of“it+be+v-ed+that......”due to its objective characteristics.Therefore,the key to translation is toconform to Chinese idiomatic expressions and convey the exact meaning of the original text,and then translate the English passive voice sentences into Chinese under the guidance ofdifferent methods according to different passive voice sentences.The specific translationmethod is adopted according to the characteristics of each passive sentence,the context,andthe logic.The author summarizes four methods of translating English passive voice sentencesinto Chinese:translating into Chinese passive voice sentences,active voice sentences,thesentence pattern“......是......的”,and non-subjective sentences.About twenty representativeexamples are discussed in Chapter 4 to exemplify the usages of the above-mentioned fourmain kinds of translation methods.The author believes that through the four translationmethods,most English passive voice sentences in the translation can be effectively solved andthe quality of Chinese translation can also be improved.Also,the translator summarized thefollowing requirements in the future translation of passive voice in civil aviation text:1)Interms of simple passive voice sentence,the translation should follow the original structure,soas to make it succinct and clear.2)In terms of complex passive voice sentence,the translationis supposed to use connectives and pronouns to break up long sentences to conveyinformation.
