All in all,the challenges facing the interpreter led to relative poor interpretingquality.The following subsections will focus on how the certain challenges affectedthe interpreter’s interpreting quality.
Conclusion
This interpreting task marked the first on-site interpreting experience for theinterpreter and it also served as her first independent undertaking of such ahigh-intensity interpreting for an extended duration.This experience was immenselyvaluable,laying a strong foundation for her future interpreting work,and enabling theinterpreter to adeptly handle challenges that may arise during subsequent interpretingprocesses.The following is a summary of the problems faced during this interpretingtask,the strategies adopted to address them,and the self-improvement reflectionsmade after the interpreting process.
Firstly,problems faced during this interpreting task.From the speaker’sperspective,his strong accent,lengthy speech segments,and short intervals posedimmense pressure on the interpreter during live interpreting task.The interpreter wasconstantly concerned about maintaining the accuracy and completeness of the output,especially when dealing with unclear input.Increased psychological pressure furtherimpacted the interpreter’s performance.From the interpreter’s standpoint,aside frompsychological pressure,insufficient daily post-reflection led to persistent errors,suchas using the third person’s perspective for interpreting;Insufficient monitoring ofoutputs led to colloquial expressions and excessive use of fillers.
Secondly,the strategies adopted by the interpreter.The strategies mentioned inthis report were all based on the principles of understanding before interpreting andflexible handling.The focus was on avoiding misinterpreting and ensuring accuracy.Additionally,during class interactions and explanations of assignments,the interpreteraimed to rephrase the content from a first-person perspective,as it was more relatableto the audience through the target language.
