Our Little Siamese Cousin was downloaded from the Gutenberg website,there is noChinese translation on the market.Therefore,the translator choose the first six chapters ofthe novel(a total of 8867 English letters)as the practical text.Before the formal translationof the novel,the translator spent a month reading the whole novel.After reading the novelfor more than ten times,the translator had a thorough grasp of the whole book.Pre-translation includes two parts:translation resources collection and understanding,preparation of translation tools.

2.1.1 Collection of Translation Resources

Our Little Siamese Cousin is a book about two kids’normal life in ancient Thailand,which contains a great deal of cultural and linguistic connotations.For ensuring theaccuracy of the translation,the translator is supposed to search and collect relevantbackground knowledge,then put those information into mind and make them useful.

First of all,the translator looked up all the works and basic information about theauthor Mary Hazelton Blanchard Wade,she graduates from Harvard University and is awell-known American children's writer who has published many novels about a city orcountry.Then the translator learned about some of the traditional customs and culture ofthe Thai people.In addition,the translator watched some movies and documentariesrelated to this background,and through collecting and browsing translation resources,thetranslator had a deeper understanding of the content and background of this book.

While-translation is the most important part of the whole translation task whencompared with the pre-translation preparation.During the whole translation task,there are8867 English words of the translation task.First of all,this book involves a large numberof issues in culture,custom and social life.It is good that the translator have already knownthe history and culture knowledge of this period though the collection of translationresources in the preparation process.However,some slang,professional terms andexpressions still brought a lot of troubles to the translation.When using Trados,it is vital toset up a term store,thus helping the translation procedure better and faster,then thetranslator will handle those difficult sentences or phases.When confronting with thosedifficult parts,the translator will use Bing or Baidu to fix those problems.By thethree-dimensional transformation method of ecological translation science,the translatorhave successfully achieved translation from the linguistic dimension,cultural dimensionand communication dimension.
