4.1 The Translational Eco-environment of Monkey King:Hero Is Back

The translational eco-environment refers to the world composed of the original text,source language,and target language,namely language,communication,culture,society,etc.The translational eco-environment is a collection of multiple factors that affect translators’optimal adaptation and optimal selection.This section will introduce the translationaleco-environment of the film Monkey King:Hero is back from both micro and macroperspectives.

4.1.1 The Macro Translational Eco-environment

The Macro Translational Eco-environment is closely related to factors such as thedevelopment of the economic and cultural environment,the level of social productivity,andthe formulation and implementation of national policies.Professor Fang Mengzhi ofShanghai University defines the translational eco-environment as the sum of all externalconditions that affect the survival and development of the translation subject.Professor HuGengshen believes that translation is the selection activity of translators adapting to thetranslation ecological environment.Translators occupy a dominant position in the translationprocess,and the impact of the translational eco-environment on them cannot be ignored.

Along with the process of globalization,if China wants to thoroughly integrate into andaffect the world,except its rise in the political and economic fields,its advance in thecultural field is of equal significance.China can improve its cultural industry strength andenhance cultural self-confidence through accelerating the development of cultural industriesand promoting the spread and influence of Chinese culture around the world.As one of thekey approaches of communication in visual culture,animation has gradually become auniversal language with international influence and dissemination due to its unique affinity.It is the most active art form in the world today that reflects the cultural scenes of differentcountries and regions,and neither adults nor children can avoid the irresistible magicbrought by it.

Unlike other types of movies,animated films have their unique characteristics in termsof language,emotions,and audience engagement.It is crucial for translators to effectivelyconvey these elements in the target language.In this article,guided by the principles ofEco-translatology,the author analyzes the subtitling translation of the animated film MonkeyKing:Hero Is Back.Drawing upon the core concepts of translation ecological environment,adaptation and selection,and three-dimensional transformation,an overview and analysis ofthe English subtitles for the film are provided.The examples selected from the animated filmMonkey King:Hero Is Back are distinctive and representative,including terms formythological characters,four-character idioms,proverbs,and culturally loaded words.
