4 Conclusion

This translation report is centered on the translation of the first four chapters of an onlinefan fiction The Story of the Fairy Grass.

During the pre-translation preparation stage,the translator corrects input errors in thesource text using online dictionaries,chooses Nida's functional equivalence theory as aguidance according to the translation purpose,and employs machine translation tools to assistin the translation.

During the translation process,the translator categorizes the challenges encountered intoseveral main groups:translation of the title,translation of characters'names,translation ofcoined words,translation of phrases about clothing and selection of tenses and aspects.Following the principles of functional equivalence theory,challenges in translating the title,characters'names,coined words and phrases about clothing,and selecting tenses and aspectsare addressed through the application of multiple translation methods and skills.Whentranslating the title,recreation translation method is employed.For the translation ofcharacters'names,transliteration,literal translation,addition and conversion are utilized.When translating phrases about clothing,translation formulas are used.When retelling thestory,tenses and aspects are selected based on the time sequence of actions and events,alongwith time-related vocabularies to ensure the clarity of the timeline.
