By conducting the experiment,this study is to know the teaching effectiveness ofrelated teaching strategies and explore whether relevant optimization strategies whichcan improve students’interest in learning English vocabulary and change students’attitudes of learning vocabulary.At the same time,in the process of teachingexperiment,it is also to find the problems existing in the practical application of thisteaching by analyzing the results of questionnaire,conversation and experimentimplementation,then to make relevant teaching strategies suitable for use in rural areas and put forward some suggestions how to optimize the teaching strategies frommulti-modal perspective.

Chapter 2 Literature Review

2.1 Definitions of Key Terms

This part mainly includes the key terms and basic concepts of related theory anddefinitions.There are five terms are listed.

2.1.1 Definitions of English Vocabulary

Vocabulary is the basis of English and it’s an important part in English learning.A word is the basic structure unit of a sentence,because a sentence is usually made upof one word after another.Different scholars hold the different views about theEnglish words.

Harmer(1991)said that an English word contains meaning,usage,structure,andgrammar and he said that vocabulary is as important as organ and fresh.Laufer(1997)approached the concept of vocabulary through the lens of vocabulary development,proposing that it is an evolutionary process where vocabulary knowledge advancesfrom superficial acquaintance towards profound understanding at distinct levels.Heconceptualized this journey as one that progressively enriches learners'comprehensionof already familiar lexical items.Ur(2000)argued that vocabulary can be broadlydefined as the collection of words taught in foreign language teaching.She putforward a new item of vocabulary which may be more a single word,such asstep-father,mother-in-law which are made up of two or three words but express asingle idea.Hatch and Brown(2001)provided a comprehensive definition ofvocabulary,elucidating that it constitutes a collection or inventory of words pertainingto a specific language,or alternately,represents the unique lexicon that individualspeakers of that language may employ in their communicative practice.

2.2 Previous Research on English Vocabulary Teaching

Lexical acquisition constitutes the foundation of English teaching and learning.Researchers from diverse international backgrounds consistently emphasize thesignificance of English vocabulary teaching.This parts is to present the previousstudies and overview of English vocabulary teaching.

2.2.1 Previous Research on English Vocabulary Teaching at Abroad

Vocabulary is a vital element of language and it’s an important element in Englishteaching.Renowned linguist Wilkins(1972)posited in his work Linguistic inLanguage Teaching that without grammar,communication is severely limited;withoutvocabulary,it ceases altogether.However,prior to the 19th century,lexical aspectsreceived minimal scholarly attention,resulting in scarce theoretical investigations andpractical explorations into vocabulary instruction.
