The text of this translation practice is the book Hints for Lovers,which is a prose writtenby a father to his daughter about gender education.The text selected for translation is thesecond to fourth chapters of the book.The entire translation process took five months,withthree months for translation and two months for editing.The aim of the translation practice isto test the author’s translation ability,improve her literary literacy,and promote thedissemination of sexual education.The background introduction of the translation projectincludes three parts:the source of the practice,an introduction to the background of theoriginal work and the expected quality control of the translation project.

When the author encountered some emotional issues,she often read books on gendereducation.During this period,the author read this book on the Gutenberg website,which hadgreat inspiration for the author.Created on July 4,1971 by Project Gutenberg’s founder,Michael S.Hart,Gutenberg has 50 years of e-books 1971-2023,which is a library of over70,000 free e-books.However,the author also encountered some words and sentences thatwere difficult to understand during the reading process.When the school called on us to starttranslation practice,the author selected this book as translation content for practice.

1.2 Translation Process

The translation process is a continuous process of taking and giving.What is taken is thecontent that best reflects the meaning of the source language text and the most suitableexpression method for the target language,while what is given is the unnecessary display ofelements and content that does not conform to the Chinese expression method in E-Ctranslation(Qiu Maoru,1993:10-12).In the process of constantly making choices,the authoris also constantly challenging herself,constantly analyzing the original text,repeatedlyoverturning and modifying the translation,and then comparing the effect of reading thetranslated text with the original text.Therefore,for authors,the translation process is evenmore beneficial than the translation results.This is also the importance of describing thetranslation process.This section elaborates on the author’s translation process from threeaspects,namely preparation,translation practice,and proofreading and revision.

1.2.1 Preparation

A good beginning is half the battle,which also applies to translation practice.Textselection is an aspect that the author needs to carefully consider when translating a text.Thedifficulty of the original text should be comparable to the translation level of the translator.The content of the original text should have certain characteristics and research values.Thetranslation should have the same reading effect as the original text(Nida,E.A.,2005).Afterselecting the text,the translator mainly made the following three aspects of preparation.
