1.2 Purpose of the Study
It is generally accepted that in English learning, writing is a more challenging skill than the other three language skills---reading, listening and speaking, because it’s a more complex cognitive activity. When completing a writing task, the writers have to master and control different variables at the same time. Consequently, both teachers and learners find it hard and frustrating to improve the students’ writing proficiency even though they attach much more importance to English writing. Due to the limited time for writing teaching and the students’ ignorance of pre-writing preparations, students do not treat writing seriously and in most cases, they write only in order to finish the writing task, but not be well-prepared for the writing. All of these bring about the result that students do not have positive attitudes towards English writing. What are the causes leading to this? The reasons are presented as follows. First of all, teacher-centered writing teaching pays little attention to students’ self-revision abilities. In previous English writing classes, because of the limited time for writing teaching, the teacher is always the center of class. They never have enough time to think and deal with their languages. Secondly, stressing the product and ignoring the process in normal English writing classes, the teachers always aim at leading the learners to write good writing works, but not pay much attention to the writing process. The teachers just require the writing products. So students finish the task for the task. They will not think about enriching the contents and improve their languages. Consequently, they can’t improve their writing ability.

2. Literature Review and Theoretical Basis
As is stated above, task frequency is one of most influencing in second language acquisition, and English writhing plays an important role in English learning process. Therefore, it is necessary to study the effect of task frequency on writing. The current chapter reviews both theoretical and empirical studies briefly.
