i Yao is reflected in the choice of translation materials,the translation method andthe change of translation of literary book titles.Li Yao’s initiative comes not onlyfrom his internal factors,but also from external factors,such as help from others thatcontribute to Li Yao’s initiative.At the same time,Li Yao’s internal factors,the socialobject,the text object,and the subjective relationship between the translator and othersubjects constrain Li Yao’s translation of literary book titles,which is the embodimentof the translator’s passivity.In contrast to previous studies on the translator’s initiative and passivity,this thesis finds that the factors affecting translator’s initiative andpassivity are constantly changing with time,technology and the translationenvironment,and that factors that previously hindered the development of translator’sinitiative may promote translator’s initiative over time.In addition,some factors canboth promote and hinder translator’s initiative.
