摘要:本文是一篇商务英语翻译论文,本报告主要运用李长栓教授提出的“理解、表达、变通”框架,对案例进行分析。李教授把翻译的过程分为理解、表达、变通三部分,他认为,译者对原文的理解应该接近、达到甚至超越原作者的水平,在表达方面,译者应该传达作者明确表达、希望表达甚至应该表达的意思。

Chapter Four Case Analysis

4.1 Comprehension

商务英语翻译论文怎么写

It is too vital for translators to evade. Only by fully understanding the original context can translators smoothly. In the process of translation, translators should leave no stones unturned to figure out the meaning of the source text.

4.1.1 Professional Expertise

The main characters in the source text were from different walks of life, and terms from different fields were included in the source text. Therefore, the translator must understand the meaning of words in specific fields.

Example 1:

ST: These menacing insects hunted and killed others in their Class with gruesome efficiency, using their rigid and powerful piercing mouthparts to puncture the outer layer of their prey and pump in a paralyzing saliva.

TT-1: 刺客虫是极其恐怖的存在,它们同类相食,捕猎时又快又狠。它们先用尖硬的口器刺入猎物的外壳,然后释放毒素。

TT-2: 刺客虫极其恐怖,它们以其他昆虫为食,捕猎时又快又狠。首先,它们用尖硬的口器刺入猎物外壳,然后释放毒素。

Analysis: The meaning of “class” in Collins and Cambridge Dictionaries is very simple. It has three meanings as a noun: (1) a group of students; (2) a lesson; (3) groups of people in different social status, middle class. At first the translator did not notice the capitalized C, so she jumped to the conclusion that “class” here means group. The implication is that two insects of the same kind kill each other.

Chapter Five Conclusion

5.1 Major Findings

First, the translator had a better understanding of the CEA framework. When understanding the original text, translators need to avail all strengths to learn about the author, the logic, and the related field. In expressing in the target language, translators should use the exact word and the precise phrase, maintain cohesion and coherence, and make sure to use the right tone and style. In order to improve readability, translators could omit, supplement, or convert their expressions to better fit the habit, taste, and acceptability of the target reader.

Throughout the translation project, the translator learned that translation is a process of solving problems by investigation and research. Investigation can broaden our horizon and increase our knowledge in various fields. And by investigation, we will get a more accurate and deeper understanding of the source text, hence improve our final expression.

As for the translation process, it was clear that translators should be well prepared before diving into the first sentence, carefully examining each word and phrase during translation, and employ different perspectives or make use of strategies put forward by predecessors to improve fluency and conciseness.

What is more, the whole translation process requires critical thinking. Li (2013, p. 368) believes that critical thinking is the skill of evaluating information and ideas. It will be used to decide whether to accept and believe the information you read based on existing knowledge, common sense, and logic. It is not only the start of finding problems, but also a great tool in the path of reaching solutions. Only by doing so can translators really understand the text and manage to figure out how to improve their translation.
