摘要:本文是一篇商务英语翻译论文,笔者以华健(埃塞俄比亚)为例,得出以下结论。首先,可以注意到,跨文化冲突管理是开展国际业务的公司不可回避的任务。尽管冲突可能无法避免,但公司应牢记,首要任务是公平处理冲突。
笔者认为在企业内部化的背景下,企业内部出现的问题将越来越受到专家学者的关注,他们试图提出一些合理的解决方案和理论指导。这些场景在实践中不断尝试,在尝试中不断完善。在企业、专家学者的共同努力下,将形成适合中国企业应对跨文化冲突的战略和方针,以期在国际化方面进行新的尝试。

1.1 Problem statement and research significance
1.1.1 Problem statement
China’s investment in Ethiopia began in the late 90s, and it had a relatively smallscale at the initial phase. State-owned enterprises played a dominant role in tradingand investing in Ethiopia during this period, yet the majority remained at a small standstill. It is due to the small number and scale of Chinese-owned enterprises thattended to invest in Ethiopia in a spontaneous and disordered manner. However, thepast decades witnessed an unprecedented wave of investment in Ethiopia fromChinese-owned enterprises with expanded scales, more extensive fields anddiversified ways. In 2011, China became both the largest import and largest exporttrading partner of Ethiopia. Similarly, China’s investment in Ethiopia has grownsteadily. According to China’s Ministry of Commerce, FDI from China to Ethiopiaincreased from virtually zero in 2004 to an aggregate amount of US$4.8 billion in2018. Nowadays, there are over 400 Chinese-owned enterprises in Ethiopia.Approximately 45 percent of Chinese-owned enterprises engaged in manufacturingand their local market share reached 30%. On the other hand, Ethiopia hasexperienced steady and broad-based real economic growth of around 10.6 percent onaverage since 2004, which can be partly attributed to the investment of Chinese-owned enterprises(Zhang&He, 2019). With the deepening of China’s reform andopening-up policy, Chinese-owned enterprises have increased foreign investment, andthus become an important source in the international capital market. Ethiopia’sOriental Industrial Park is an industrial park built by Chinese-owned enterprises in Ethiopia.

1.2 Research idea and research methods
1.2.1 Research idea
Based on the literature reviews and interviews about real circumstances of Huajian(Ethiopia), as a combination of a questionnaire survey on its staff, this thesis is aimed at identifying and tackling cross-cultural conflicts of case enterprise. It thus has thepotential to optimize cross-cultural conflict management.
The research idea is shown in Figure 1-1. This thesis starts with the problemstatement. Three research questions to be solved are : 1) What are the current culturalconflicts and existing problems of cross-cultural conflict management of Huajian(Ethiopia)? 2) What reasons could be attributed to the cultural conflicts ofHuajian(Ethiopia)? 3) What approaches could be proposed to deal with culturalconflicts and cross-cultural conflict management problems?
In order to answer the above questions, the thesis conducts a semi-structuralinterview and a questionnaire survey. A semi-construct interview is made to examinethe process of cross-cultural conflict management of case enterprise, which also laysthe foundation for the design of questionnaire. Next follows quantitative analysis via aquestionnaire survey. The questionnaire makes a reference for Denison’sorganizational cultural theory to measure cross-cultural conflicts of the case enterprise.Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory is then applied to analyze the causes of theconflicts.
