6.1 Major Findings

This paper presents a contrastive study on the differences of Chinese and American loveand marriage values from the two TV series.The author demonstrates the differences from theperspective of feminism,and analyzes the underlying causes that generate the differences inthe Chinese and American love and marriage values,and then further expounds thesignificance and enlightenment of being sincere,mutual respect and respecting differences inlove and marriage relationships for contemporary Chinese youth.Here are the specificfindings of the present study.

Firstly,when it comes to the significant difference between the Chinese and Americanlove and marriage values,the paper focuses four dimensions in standards of spouse selection,purposes of love and marriage,position in family life and career development and attitudestowards sex and divorce in the two TV plays Nothing but Thirty and Sex and The City.

As for the standards of spouse selection,the heroines in Nothing but Thirty and Sex andThe City differed largely from each other.The Chinese heroines cared more about educationalbackground,financial strength,occupation,personal virtues and appearance.And theAmerican heroines paid more attention to age,compatible personality,shared interests andhobbies.Besides,the Chinese heroines emphasized love relationship and free loveexperiences,and marriage life;while the American heroines were ready to pursue a romanticlove relationship and enjoy the present life.
