ionally, literary works attract more attention in the research scope oftranslation theory. In the era of information, global communication in the fields of science,economy, and politics becomes tight and convenient. Currently, these non-literary translationsplay an indispensable role in global communication. International political discourse is animportant text type of them. In an age when the world is constantly growing smaller, andnations are increasingly drawn closer together, the necessity for exchanging information andideas across borders in both oral and written forms has become a fact of life, politicalcommunication has become inconceivable without translation. Translators and interpretershave long been employed in practical translation of international political discourse. But mostof them translate with their experiences rather than a systematical theory. The improvement oftranslation theory of this discourse has been neglected and ignored for a long time. Therefore,it is necessary to research on this field by aid of pioneer’s systematical translation theory.

1.2 Purposes and questions of the study研究的问题和目的

In the translating process, I experienced and found some difficultiesand confusions owing to extra-linguistic differences and linguistic differences between twolanguages, such as, the complexity of political texts, the flexibility of political languages, andthe multiplicity of political implication, and cultural collision, ideological difference behindthe linguistic form. Thus, as far as I am concerned, it is urgent to find a translation theorysystem to assist us in E-C translation of international political discourse.For improving the E-C translation quality of international political discourse, the papertries to comprehensively analyze the communicative functions, linguistic features, text typesof international political discourse. Then, in the light of Reiss’s text typology, the paperattempts to indicate the internal relationship among them in order to adopt proper strategies intranslating process.The study of this paper is just one of attempts aiming at having deep understanding ofinternational political discourse and more comprehensive exploration of E-C translation ofinternational political discourse based on Reiss’s text typology.The paper tries to answer the following questions:Firstly, what are the communicative functions of international political discourse? It iscrucial to analyze the communicative functions, because the text types are classifiedaccording to their dominating communicative functions in Reiss’s translation theory.Consequently, here is the second question, how many text types can international politicaldiscourse be divided into? Drawing on Reiss’s translation theory, the choice of translationstrategies is based on the text type, which poses the third question: what are the correspondingtranslation strategies for different international political text types. In order to guide thepractical E-C translation of international political discourse, the paper tries to analyze eachtext type’s linguistic features which must be concerned by translator and introduce translationtechniques.
