vital step for the whole translation process.Before thetranslation,many preparations have been done previously.The author firstly madesource text analysis,including the background knowledge of the book,the author andthe text function.Then,the author provided an introduction to the application ofNewmark’s communicative translation theory in translation practice.

Digital Frontiers in Gender and Security,a book exploring the digital frontiersof feminist international relations,published by Bristol University Press,is the sourcetext of the translation project,in which two excerpts,Introduction and Chapter 2,from the book over 15 thousand words are translated.The selected book is anacademic work with suitable language difficulty and practical significance.There isno published Chinese version so far,which is suitable for translation practice.

Dr.Alexis Henshaw is the author of Digital Frontiers in Gender and Security.She is currently an associate professor at Troy University.Her research interestsinclude gender issues in international politics,civil wars,conflict management,andLatin America.She has also published work on research methods and design,including pieces focused on pedagogy,data analysis&visualization,and inclusivity.Her work has appeared in Journal of Global Security Studies,International FeministJournal of Politics,Studies in Conflict&Terrorism,Small Wars&Insurgencies,anda variety of other peer-reviewed outlets.In the book,Dr.Alexis Henshawdemonstrates the specific threats that women and minorities face in cyberspace.Sheraises our awareness beyond what is routine knowledge about the darker side of thenet,giving the feminist and international relations community serious food forthought and raising future research questions.

2.2 In-translation Process

When translating,the translator first made a translation plan and foundtranslation tools and websites like Bing,Microsoft Translator,bimuyu.com andDeepL.

The translation plan is as follows:the translator started translating from earlyJuly,2023 with a rough version produced at the end of July,fix the draft by thetranslator herself until mid-August and revise the translation according to thesupervisor’s advice before December.After revising,the final version will beproduced.The translation report is planned to be finished in March,2024.

The next is resource preparation.The translator went through authoritativeinternet materials on Wikipedia,Baidu and CNKI and read parallel academic workand their translation to learn about vocabulary,expressions and background in thefield.As Li Changshuan pointed out that understanding the background of theoriginal writing(including knowledge in the field)is helpful in making flexibledecisions,because the communicative situation of the source text is different fromthat of the target text.It is also necessary to intervene in the source text so that thetarget reader can better understand the original intention(72-79).

During translation,there are mainly two tasks:producing target text resorting toPeter Newmark’s communicative translation theory and recording difficulties worthyof analysis on the report.
