Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 Background of the Research
Teachers play a vital role in implementing the new curriculum reform,and thecontinuous improvement of English teachers’quality plays a crucial role in the successof the English teaching reform.Improving discourse quality is one of the keys toenhancing English teachers’quality.Teachers can enhance the quality of classroomdiscourse and their own discourse by analyzing the discourse of English teachers.InChina,getting a lot of understandable discourse input is a necessity for students to learnEnglish effectively.The primary source of comprehensible language input for studentsis the discourse that takes place in English teachers’classroom discourse.The discoursethat English teachers employ in the classroom is referred to as their“classroomdiscourse.”This discourse has a significant impact on students’psychology,emotions,and behavior in the classroom in addition to the Educational effect of the Englishclassroom.Researchers are increasingly focusing on the impact of English teachers’classroom discourse on students.
Cultivating students’skills in listening,speaking,reading,viewing,and writing andtheir comprehensive application ability is an important content stipulated in The EnglishCurriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition).Teachers in juniorhigh school English classes should focus on developing students’listening and speakingabilities to enable them to effectively express their thoughts and opinions in the targetlanguage.To maximize their initiative in English teaching,students must activelyengage in teaching activities to ensure the effectiveness of the instruction.
1.2 Purposes of the Research
Teachers’classroom discourse is the key to successful language teaching.Teachers’classroom discourse in English teaching is essential for organizing lessons andfacilitating students’understanding of discourse.The quality of teaching is determinedby the quantity and quality of teachers’classroom discourse.All the teaching contentmust be effectively conveyed through teachers’classroom discourse to achieve thedesired teaching effect.The observation and study of teachers’classroom discourse areof great significance to the improvement of teachers’professional awareness,theimprovement of classroom teaching quality and the improvement of student’s Englishlanguage proficiency.In addition to being a form of development and refinement of the study of teachers’classroom discourse,investigating and assessing teachers’classroomdiscourse in junior high school English listening and speaking classes also provides adeep insight into the state of English teaching today.
