摘要:本文是一篇英语教学法论文,本研究尝试将思维导图用于词汇教学,以期提高初中英语词汇教学的效果,进而促进学生的词汇学习。

本文是一篇英语教学法论文,本研究发现:(1)大部分学生能意识到词汇学习的重要性,但词汇学习方法单一,缺乏科学的词汇学习方法;(2)思维导图的应用对学生词汇学习有积极的影响,主要体现在词汇学习方法的改善和词汇成绩的提高。此外,将思维导图用于不同的教学环节,能有效改善传统英语词汇教学的模式和方法。

Chapter One Introduction

1.1 Research Background

Vocabulary is the foundation of language learning.All phrases,sentences,discourses,and even complete chapters are made up of words.Words are the building blocks of language,connecting pronunciation and grammar.Therefore,vocabulary is one of the most criticalfactors in the learning process.According to linguist Wilkins(1972),‘without grammar verylittle can be conveyed,without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed’(p.111).Haynes andBaker(1993)concluded that the greatest obstacle for second language(L2)learners is not alack of reading strategies but inadequate English vocabulary.Therefore,vocabulary is thebasis for mastering the English language.Learners need to acquire a large vocabulary in orderto learn the language better.

Compulsory Education Curriculum Program(2022 Edition)provides an integrated andsystematic approach to curriculum design and improvement.Take the implementation ofcurriculum as an example,it advocates deepening teaching reform by promoting integratedlearning.For teachers,the specific requirement is to actively engage in integrated teachingactivities such as thematic learning and project-based learning.The main purpose is tostrengthen the intrinsic connections between knowledge and promote the structuring ofknowledge(Ministry of Education,2022:04).It indicates that a fragmented approach toteaching is no longer sufficient to meet the learning needs of pupils.That means integratedteaching should be promoted.It is particularly evident in vocabulary teaching.Teachers areaccustomed to explaining the basic contents of words such as pronunciation,spelling,meaning and collocations,but fail to point out the intrinsic connections between words.

1.2 Purpose of the study

This thesis aims to explore the effectiveness of mind map in junior high school Englishvocabulary teaching.The author conducted a pedagogical study in junior high school to verifythe effectiveness of mind map in vocabulary teaching.There are two specific researchobjectives in this thesis.First,the author reads the literature and finds that there are commonproblems in vocabulary teaching.Based on it,the author used questionnaire to verify whetherthe same problems existed in English vocabulary teaching and learning in junior high school.Secondly,the author explores the application of mind map in vocabulary teaching whichincludes three parts,namely preparation before class,instruction in class and consolidationafter class in order to discuss the specific impact of mind map on students’vocabularylearning.


Chapter Two Literature Review

2.1 Previous Studies on English Vocabulary Teaching
