摘要:本文是一篇英语教学法论文,本研究尝试将思维导图用于词汇教学,以期提高初中英语词汇教学的效果,进而促进学生的词汇学习。

nglish vocabulary teaching has made great progress inspite of it started late.The focuses of the research are mainly on the status quo of vocabularyteaching,vocabulary teaching methods,vocabulary teaching strategies and vocabularyteaching models.

2.1.1 Definition of Vocabulary Teaching

Vocabulary teaching is a teaching process for teachers to help student master correctvocabulary.Harmer(1990)defines vocabulary teaching as:the content of vocabulary teachingshould include the meaning of vocabulary,the usage of vocabulary(such as phrases andcollocations),and the knowledge about vocabulary(such as part of speech,roots and affixes).Chinese scholars Cui and Kong(2009)suggest that the contents of vocabulary teachingmainly contain six aspects,which are phonology and spelling,grammar,collocation,meaning,appropriateness,and structure.In order to master vocabulary items,learners are required tograsp vocabulary learning methods.However,English teaching in China has beenemphasizing the importance of grammar teaching and ignoring how to innovate the teachingmode of English vocabulary in junior high school.

2.2 Previous Studies on Mind Map

The concept of mind map dates back to the 1970s,and its research in the field ofeducation is relatively mature.Scholars have conducted extensive research on the applicationof mind map,focusing on their availability,teaching strategies,and auxiliary tools.However,research on mind map in our country did not begin until around 2000.As researcherscontinued to explore the topic,mind map has become widely used in subject teaching.Thisthesis primarily analyzes the impact of mind map on English teaching.

2.2.1 Definition of Mind Map

A mind map is a visual tool for representing knowledge that can express people’sdivergent thinking.It features simplicity and efficiency.Buzan(2006)defines the mind mapas a new pattern of thinking,and it is a note-taking tool to record divergent thinking.It synthesizes whole-brain concepts,enhances a person’s thinking ability,and inspiresassociation and creativity.

Currently,there are two basic ways to draw mind map,either by hand or by usingsoftware.Liu(2017)notes that a complete mind map is composed of six core elements,whichare the central idea,lines,keywords,images,colors,and structure.These six core elementsform a cubic structure to help our brain store,organize,and further optimize information.Thecore element of drawing a mind map is to recombine keywords.
