Writing this book,the author hopes that it can help the readers understand their ownexperiences:how they get into the energy-consuming dilemma and how they lose theirminds in an anxiety and pressure trap.In addition,the book provides readers withscientific methods to completely change the way of thinking,to feel themselves byending the vicious thinking mode,to stop indulging in the past and negative thinking,torelease unlimited potential,and to start living positively without self-deprecation.

Chapter 2 Theoretical Framework

2.1 Introduction of Relevance Theory

Relevance theory was first proposed by Sperber and Wilson in 1986 in their bookRelevance:Communication and Cognition.Relevance theory is used to describe people’scognitive process of discourse,aiming to identify the internal mechanism existing in thehuman brain,thus explaining human communication behavior(Sperber&Wilson,1996).Sperber and Wilson put forward two principles:optimal relevance and maximumrelevance.Optimal relevance is a basic concept of relevance theory.Sperber and Wilsonpoint out that language communication means the speaker expresses intention to thelistener according to his abilities and preferences.Then the listener chooses the mostrelevant known information based on the obtained language,thus achieving the optimalcontextual effect.The maximum relevance refers to maximizing contextual effects withminimal processing effort.It is the cognitive principle.The optimal relevance is thecommunicative principle,that is,every ostensive communicative action conveys anassumption of the optimal relevance(Agnieszka,2020).Maximum relevance refers to theidea that the speaker should aim to provide all the information to fully convey theirintended meaning.The translator puts forth every effort to ensure that the readers are ableto access all nuances,subtleties,and information to their fullest extent(Gutt,1991).

Relevance theory holds that the listener hopes to get sufficient contextual effectwithout too much effort.Relevance depends on two factors:processing efforts andcontextual effects.Sperber and Wilson also point out that when the external targetinformation resonates with the existing knowledge source of the language receiver,thisresonance affects the original context of the language receiver itself,making it change,thus contributing to the updated context.

2.2 Application of Relevance Theory
