ords, we can say making errors is a language phenomenon which does not accordwith standard language. In other words, language learners use the second language orforeign language to have oral communication or write something in a wrong way. Tosome extent, the errors can show that there are some aspects where learners don’tmaster well. 2.2 Previous Studies of Error Analysis Abroad and in China
Corder (1967) stated at his The Significance of Learners’ Error that errors are notonly used as something to be corrected or eradicated, but the meaning of error isreally more important than itself; Stevens (1969), through analyzing the errors thatcome from language learners who have different language backgrounds, clarifieddifferent kind of errors including the production and distribution of verb phrase andthe application of interrogative, preposition, article. Corder (1973) started to payattention to distinguishing nature errors and induced error. He believed that theresearch method could produce induced error, which was not caused by students’language study naturally. Schacter (1974) had an experiment about the analysis of thesubordinate clause errors. She divided the people into two groups: one is the learnerswho come from China and Japan; the other group is the learners come from Arab andIran. She inferred that when learners are facing some difficult structures they willchoose to avoid them. Lococo(1976) found that the data of free writing composition, translation and picture description are different in the quantity and type of errors. Thecauses of errors are also different. For example, the errors collected from translationare mostly caused by mother language.Felix (1981) compared the language ofinstructed learners and naturalistic learners. Norrish (1983:1-9) stated in his researchthat the appearance of error or the error itself was inevitable during the learningprocess and it was also a very important part. No matter for the teachers who areteaching language or students who are learning language, making error is the processthat they must experience. Meanwhile, he also stated that many teachers had a wrongattitude to the errors that students had made and they believed that error is thesymbolization of their failure learning.Bardovi-Harling and Bofman (1989)investigated two different groups of learners.
