The translation, publication and dissemination of Chinese literature play a very important role in the process of Chinese culture “Going Global”. The world needs to observe China through Chinese literature. Since Mo Y an won t he Nobel Prize in literature, experts in the field of translation study have been enthusiastically discussing the importance of translation, the relationship between translation and writing, translation strategies and the methods, and the influence of translation on the dissemination of Chinese literature and culture. 1.2Purpose of the Study
Translation is a very important met hod in prom oting the Chinese literature going global. However, in what way can we make our translation promote Chinese culture going global? If Howard Goldblatt is a model in pro moting Chinese literature going global, then what are the m ethods and strategies he employs in his translation, and what are the factors that influence his translation. Translators hold different standpoints and attitudes towards different works and cultures. And different standpoints will lead to different translation strategies. In this paper, the author explores Howard Gol dblatt’s culture attit udes and studies the influences of the cultural attitudes on the translation
strategy with a wish of finding a new angle to study Howard Goldbaltt’s translation model and providing some help for the later studies on Howard Goldbaltt.
