摘要:As a new branch of linguistics, cognitive linguistics has become more popularbecause it illuminates many complicated linguistic problems. In fact, it also bringsabout a challenge against traditional pedagogical methods.
Conclusion
As this study has the above limitations, a more comprehensive one is expected forimproving English idiom acquisition. So in order to make a better study, some generaldiscussions and suggestions for future study are as follows:
(1) The further study needs to be perfected with a larger size of sample whichcontains different levels of students of different areas and incorporated into a soundlength of treatment of normal teaching.
(2) The materials of the present study only include English idioms of fivecategories which is not enough for exploring the methods of improving English idiomacquisition. Future study needs to consider more English idiom categories and furtherthe study on the application of the cognitive approach in other aspects of listeningcomprehension, speaking, and writing so as to achieve a more scientific result.
(3) What is worth mentioning is that the researchers themselves should have abetter understanding of cognitive approach through further study so that they can givea more comprehensive explanation to the students. Besides, in the future study, moreuncertain factors that may affect the final results also should be considered to ensurethe reliability and validity of the study. For example, the students’ motivation in thepresent study is maybe higher than the usual study because the writer links theirperformance with their final scores of English course. Thus they are more active in thelearning process so that may get a better learning effect.
In conclusion, there is still much space for scholars to improve the future study. This study is an attempt to explore the methods of improving English idiomacquisition and even English vocabulary acquisition. The writer hopes that this studymay give some hints for English idiom teaching and learning, especially fornon-English majors who are confused about their English studies.
