摘要:本文是一篇高中英语教学论文,本研究参考期末英语考试成绩将学生分成了高、中、低三组,分别从每个组里边挑选两人(一个男生,一个女生),共六人参与了访谈。通过访谈和自画轨迹图的方式来探寻影响学生定向动机流变化的因素。

Chapter 2 Literature Review

2.1 Key Concepts

Definitions of key concepts help researchers to have a better understanding of theresearch objectives,so this section is of great necessity.

2.1.1 L2 Learning Motivation

One of the human behavior motivations is L2 learning motivation,which shows thedesire to learn and master a foreign language.There are some scholars who define thedefinition based on their understanding.According to Gardner(1985),learning motivationwas the pursuit of personal fulfillment in the subject area being studied.Deci and Ryan(1985)distinguished two conceptions of motivation:extrinsic motivation,which was predicated onthe activity’s outward reward,and intrinsic motivation,which derived from the activity’sintrinsic appeal.Intrinsic motivation was generally driven by interest,curiosity,or individualachievement needs,which was persistent,leaving learning individuals in a positive activitystate for a long time.External motivation was aroused by incentives outside learning activities,such as higher education,parents,and teachers,and it also had a certain effect on learningbehavior.Based on the views of educational researchers,this study believes that L2 learning motivation refers to the psychological desire to initiate and sustain personal behaviors relatedto the acquisition of the English language in order to meet the learning demands.And it is theinternal motivation to promote students to learn English.At the same time,this paper agreeswith the above division of internal and external motivation,and believes that foreign languagelearning based on internal motivation has an excellent effect.Although learning based onexternal motivation is a kind of pressure,it is also helpful for English learning as long as thedegree is well controlled.Ellis(1994)believed that the motivation for the pursuit of a foreignlanguage originated from the imperative and profound desire to engage in learning a foreignlanguage and the effort that learners paid to meet their needs and achieve their desires.HuChundong and Wang Cairen(1996)pointed out that L2 learning motivation directly promotedL2 learners to achieve certain goals which belonged to the aspect of Psychology.In the bookEducational Psychology,Zhang Dajun(2004)defined learning motivation as an internalpsychological state of stimulating and maintaining individuals to carry out learning activities,and individuals’acts according to learning objectives so that they can meet certain learningneeds.A positive attitude towards learning language played an important role in improvingthe efficiency of learning language.Therefore,enhancing the motivation to learn English isnecessary to the senior high school students.For the sake of deepening the understanding oflearning motivation,the development history must be mentioned.

2.2 Theoretical Basis of DMCs

As a new theory in the field of motivation research,the DMCs Theory was proposedbased on the previous motivation theory.The development of several motivation theoriesmade great contributions to the production of DMCs,including Goal Setting Theory,FlowTheory(Csikszentmihalyi,1990),Dynamic Systems Theory,and so on.

2.2.1 Goal Setting Theory
