The Russian Economy under Putin was published by Routledge Press in 2019. The authors are Torbjörn Becker and Susanne Oxenstierna, and both of them have doctor degrees of Philosophy and they are research experts related to Russia. This book analyzes the recession and growth of the Russian economy, oil price shocks, external sanctions, and the lack of policy measures that can provide some remedial measures for these issues. The content is divided into three parts. The first part contains four chapters, which introduce Russian influence in the world economy and the impact of the world economy on Russia; the second part is divided into four chapters, which introduce the internal resource allocation, institutions, population, and national defense situation in Russia; the third part introduces the limitations and economic characteristics of Putin economic model, as well as the current political and economic situation in Russia. The following two aspects are considered for selecting this book.

This translation practice can provide some referential value for the translation strategies of economic texts. The translation literature on CNKI yielded 130800 results, the economic literature is up to 40600 which takes a large proportion of the total result. Because there are so many people researching the economic text, the translator also wants to make contributions to this field. The translator hopes to provide some helpful suggestions and references for translation strategies of economic texts in the future, thereby improving the quality and efficiency of economic text translation.

1.2 Analysis of the Source Text

Chapter 8 was selected for this translation practice, which introduces the age composition and education status of employed individuals in the Russian labor market, covering past achievements, predictions for the future, and extension of retirement age. The Chapter 8 consists of over 8100 words, 10 charts, 10 tables, and 1 formula. The translator used the Wenziyun to calculate the frequency of each word appearing in the original text. After the statistical results were obtained, the translator further edited and removed some grammatical words (conjunctions, pronouns, prepositions, articles) to rank the frequency of semantic verbs. The top 10 words in terms of frequency were “age”, “per”, “employment”, “cent”, “education”, “russian”, “labour”, “workers”, “economy” and so on. Each data belongs to different functions and fields.
