The translators are responsiblefor employing translation strategies wisely and comprehensively to accomplish thepurpose of the translation. They should always bear in mind the discrepancies incultural background knowledge between Chinese and foreign visitors to producetranslated texts that are well suitable to the taste of target readers.It is hoped that this study could be of help in the translators’ decision-makingprocess and provide some different perspectives in the future study of the translationof tourist publicity texts. However, the examples cited in this thesis are mostlyconfined to traditional channels including tourist guidebooks, brochures or on-sitetourist attraction introductions, etc. The translation of tourist publicity texts on othermedia such as videos is not covered. Besides, the author’s understanding and analysisof the functionalist approach are still limited, and translation strategies according tothe content of tourist publicity texts are left to be further explored.
