The research background of this study includes the following three aspects. First, pronunciation teaching still serves as a significant part in foreign language teaching in our country, and is proved to be the essential point in traditional teaching patterns. Moreover, the neglect of pronunciation teaching has become more and more evident due to various reasons, bringing its status to a relatively low level. Finally, the way we teach pronunciation nowadays is not as satisfactory as before. It is necessary for us to compare what we do with that in foreign countries in order to acquire some inspiration. The comparison of English pronunciation teaching in this
dissertation focuses on the basic education in our country, which is equivalent to primary education in the UK. It is not based on college education where students in English major learn English pronunciation systematically. The teaching of English pronunciation during basic education in our country is not delivered to a good standard. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the ways teachers in English-speaking countries adopt in teaching English pronunciation during their elementary level of teaching. It will be of beneficial to our teachers in drawing insights.

Chapter Two Literature Review
2.1 Pronunciation Teaching in Language Teaching
Language has its own characteristics, the nature of which is pronunciation. That is to say, the truth about language is the sound people make in uttering a sentence. If it is put in this way, we can say that sound language comes first. Because of pronunciation, language can serve as a communication intermediate in the society and can be passed on from generation to generation. Therefore, pronunciation is the base of language existence and development. It is the nature of language, playing an important role in language learning, use and study. However, it seems that pronunciation teaching fails to attract sufficient attention in English teaching in our country. On the contrary, it is usually considered to be the minor component.
