2.2 Translation Process

After the preparation,the journey of translating began.Chapters one to fourwere chosen as the translation material,containing 10,800 English words.After thefirst general reading before,the translator already had a general idea about thecontents and the style of the source text.Aiming at getting a translation with goodquality,the translator decided to have another intensive reading of the four chapterschosen herein to get a better understanding about the contents.This time,during thereading,the translator underlined the parts that deserves a further analysis,forexample,“His series from 2014 is confrontational;every one of us could have beenlying there with just as much rubbish.”(P.21).In that sentence,the word“confrontational”puzzled the translator for a while,so the translator highlighted itwith a fluorescent pen for a later consulting.After a thorough underlining of theconfusing parts and a deeper understanding on the contents,the translator decided totake actions to translate under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory.Thus,for a comprehensive and thorough understanding on the functional equivalence theory,the translator downloaded some journals and dissertations on Nida’s functionalequivalence theory to have a further study.Then,on the principle of“more hastemakes less speed”,the translator decided to translate only about 500 words a day,which cost 20 days to get the first draft of translation.
