The analysis of Faustus’s involvement in the Pope’s feast emphasizes the oblivious and destructive joy of the Dionysian spirit, which challenges class boundaries and deepens Faustus’s rebellious image. Faustus’s speeches and soliloquies, marked by a disdain for traditional disciplines and a challenge to established norms, underscore the antagonistic forces between the order of God and the magic of hell, represented by Apollo and Dionysus, respectively. The chorus as tragic ritual enacts Faustus’s fall, creating a shared emotion of power through black magic, capturing the audience’s attention and fostering a strong emotional response. Faustus’s magic evokes communal participation, attracting audiences and fostering emotional catharsis, it inflates his heart, enhancing his ego and satisfaction. The summoning ritual of Mephastophilis and Faustus’s signing of the pact with Lucifer symbolize key moments in Faustus’s spiritual journey, reflecting his disregard for religious authority and formal commitment to the pursuit of forbidden knowledge and worldly power. The repetition of blood in the ritual underscores the gravity of Faustus’s choices, emphasizing the irreversibility of his quest.
