Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Introduction to the Source Text and Its Creators
In order to accurately translate the source text and successfully complete thepractice report,the translator must make adequate preparations.First of all,it isnecessary to study the source text.
As an Educational text,500 Tips for TESOL(Teaching English to Speakers ofOther Languages),by Sue Wharton and Phil Race,was first published in 1999 byKogan Page Limited.This book is for those who have taught other languages for yearsand those who are in training or work as student teachers.It is not only intended for thenovice teachers who are about to start their careers,but is also useful for moreexperienced teachers who are moving into course design,self-study delivery,teachertraining and other new areas.The seven-chapter book offers 500 tips to experiencedand novice teachers on teaching plans,learner’s needs,classroom instruction,self-access,the use of information technology,learning assessment,and personal andprofessional development,among which chapter three is the most important one.
This book is a co-authored text.The first author is Sue Wharton.She is anassociate professor who has looked at the discursive construction of identity in manyeducational and professional contexts,such as teacher education and social work.Shehas also worked on examination administration and development at the LondonUniversity Exam Board,and worked as an English teacher and teaching trainer in different European countries.Her research on English teaching and experience intraining novice teachers enables her to provide sound and practical advice to Englisheducators.
1.2 Purpose and Significance
As the most common language in the world,English plays an extremely importantrole in the fields of politics,economy,culture,science and technology.As the largestdeveloping country,China’s international status is gradually rising and its internationalinfluence is constantly expanding.Learning English has become an important part ofChina’s educational development in order to secure its position in the internationalcommunity,improve China’s competitiveness,and enable China to acquire moreessence from different cultures and technologies(Xu Anfu,2020).The translator,as anEnglish teacher,has found in the long-term teaching process that although China’squality-oriented education reform has been deepened and the double reduction policy has been carried out,the English teaching mode has been solidified under theexam-oriented teaching environment,and students’interest has not been enhanced.Some teachers’teaching methods neglect the law of English as a language.Theteaching level of novice teachers cannot be improved,and experienced teachers arestuck in a rut.In order to promote the quality of English teaching,improve classroomefficiency and enhance the effectiveness of teaching,English teachers must adjust theirown teaching modes and enrich the classroom according to the age level of students,sothat students can achieve success in learning on the basis of enhancing their interest(Ren Xing,2017).In his 100 Suggestions for Teachers,Vasyl Sukhomlinsky pointedout that what students learn should become a means to make it“alive”in their dailylives,rather than just an end本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
