2.2 Studies on Plant Nouns

Plant words have always been an important research point in Chinese lexicology.Scholars from different fields have conducted extensive research and exploration onplant words and their plant culture from various perspectives.This part will give abrief review of plant nouns from perspectives of cultural connotation,metaphoricalcognition of plant nouns and lexicographical studies on plant nouns.

2.2.1 Cultural Connotations of Plant Nouns

The study of the cultural connotations of plant words has always been a focus ofconcern for scholars,and it is also a major field with relatively concentrated academicachievements.At present,research on this topic mainly focuses on two aspects.One isto conduct cross-cultural comparative studies on plant words based on in-depthanalysis of their cultural meanings,in order to reveal the similarities and differencesin cultural meanings of plant words under different ethnic backgrounds.This researchinvolves the diversity and differences in cultural semantics of plant words.The othertype combines the traditional culture of the Chinese nation,focusing on analyzing thenational culture and humanistic spirit in Chinese plant words.

Different ethnic groups present different linguistic and cultural backgrounds,whichare reflected in significant differences in the vocabulary system.Studying the culturalsemantic differences of plant words between Chinese and other ethnic language planthas been an important topic of academic attention in recent decades.Some scholarshave analyzed the semantic differences,especially the cultural meanings,of plantwords in different cultural backgrounds,and pointed out the social and culturaldifferences that exist in the corresponding words.
