Chapter Six Contrastive Study of the Xing A of English Classical Novel and the Xing F of Chinese Classical Novel
6.1 The Differences between the Originals
As discussed in chapter 4, on the philosophical level the character descriptions of LeMorte d'Arthur are influenced by the TE which can be interpreted in two parts: thesubordination of the entities and the dominance of the events. Therefore, on the linguisticlevel the character descriptions in Le Morte d'Arthur enjoy the simplex and holisticpreference of characterization which is the representative of the subordination of the entitiesand the dominance of the verbs which is the representative of the dominance of the events.According to chapter 5, on the philosophical level the character descriptions of Shuihu Zhuanare influenced by the SC which also can be interpreted in two parts: the subordination of theevents and the dominance of the entities. Accordingly, on the linguistic level the characterdescriptions in Shuihu Zhuan favor the detailed and meticulous orientation of characterizationwhich is the representative of the subordination of the events and the dominance of the verbswhich is the representative of the dominance of the entities.

Conclusion
It is clear that the contrastive study of English and Chinese honors a long history with alarge number of fruitful results. Presently, the contrastive study of the two languages hasencountered a new era ever since the hypothesis of the temporal trait of the English languageand the spatial trait of the Chinese language was proposed by Wang Wenbin in 2012.However, the TE and SC is such a newly hypothesis that much more intensive andcomprehensive studies are obviously required to promote it to be a scientific and systematictheory which should be highly accepted in the current academic field. Therefore, enlightenedby this new-born viewpoint, this thesis aims to confirm this root cause of differences betweenEnglish and Chinese on the linguistic level by exploring the similarities and differences ofcharacterization between English and Chinese classical novels and to specify the concreterepresentatives of the root cause which are demonstrated in Le Morte d'Arthur and ShuihuZhuan. With the English classical novel as the reference point, the contrastive study of theXing A preference in Le Morte d'Arthur and the Xing F orientation in Shuihu Zhuan ends upwith the following findings.
