摘要:Through quantitative and qualitative research methods, the present study isintended to investigate English-major postgraduates' use of oral communicationstrategies in China. The study first attempts to investigate students' perception of theeffectiveness and self-use of CSs.
Chapter Four Findings and Discussions
This chapter presents the findings in conformity with three research instrumentsadopted in this study. In section 4.1, results from the self-evaluated questionnaire are toanswer question 1: What are Chinese English-major postgraduates' perception towardsuse and usefulness of oral communication strategies communication strategies? Thewriter will also make a comparison between the results of two sections to discuss thesimilarities and differences. In section 4.2, findings from three oral tasks and interviewswork as a supplement to reported CSs use in questionnaire, and thus answer researchquestion 2: What are Chinese English-major postgraduates' top three and last three usedcommunication strategies in oral performance? Besides the listed communicationstrategies in the present study, the writer tries to find whether English-majorpostgraduates' use of oral communication strategies has its own features. In section 4.3,the writer attempts to make a comparison between English-major postgraduates' use andundergraduates', to answer question 3: What are the similarities and differences of theCS-use between PME level learners and undergraduate level learners?

Conclusion
This study examines the Chinese English-major postgraduates' perceptions and useof communication strategies which is an important aspect of communicationcompetence, with questionnaires, speaking tasks and interviews. The researcher boldlyassumes that the CSs use of L2 learners hold its stage characteristics because theinterlanguage approaches the target language in a dynamic and developmental process.Then the researcher makes a comparison between the investigation of English-majorpostgraduates of this study and other researchers' former research results ofundergraduates, taking these two different levels of English learners,in order to find outif there are distinctiveness and what they are.The results show the English major postgraduates' limited understanding towardsCSs by examining their perceived effectiveness and self-awareness of CSs. On the otherhand,they consciously or unconsciously use the strategies, which are taken as onesoften adopted by less advanced learners according previous scholars,or as less effectiveor less often used ones by themselves.
