摘要:Much work has been done in attempting to identify what might be good languagelearning strategies, and in figuring out the relationship between language learningstrategy use and some learner factors, such as language proficiency, culturalbackground, course tasks, learning motivation or some other factors.
Conclusion
The major findings of this research are summarized here below in accordancewith the research questions,Chinese high school EFL learners also use a variety of knowledge sources ininferring meanings of target words, ranging from linguistic to non-linguistic.Linguistic clues are composed of both intra-lingual and inter-lingual sources.Intra-lingual sources include word morphology, word association, homonymy,syntagmatic relations, paradigmatic relations, punctuation, sentence meaning,grammar , discourse meaning and formal schemata. Inter-lingual sources are L1-based,consisting of L1 lexical knowledge and L1 word collocation. Non-linguistic sourcesmainly refer to learners’ world knowledge or knowledge of the topic. Some of thesources are used more frequently than others. The patterns show that students use more linguistic sources than non-linguisticsources, and more intra-lingual sources than inter-lingual sources. This indicates thatL2 learners would use similar knowledge sources in dealing with the gap of lexicalknowledge while reading, irrespective of their first language. However, in terms ofspecific strategies, variation occurs. The three kinds of most frequently used clues arediscourse-level meaning, followed by formal schemata, and then sentence meaning.The three least frequently used ones are homonymy, grammar and syntagmaticrelations. It shows that Chinese high school EFL learners tend to use more globalclues than local clues.
