摘要:本文采用了斯韦尔斯的语步分析模式,从语步的频率,语步分布模式以及各语步的词块特征方面进行分析。研究结果表明,中美高校学校介绍存在很大差异,而文理差异则对高校介绍的影响并不明显。
udy of genre analysis on this specificpromotional discourse is quite important.Genre analysis has drawn many scholars’ interest since 1980s. It is a major branch ofdiscourse analysis which studies the relationship between language and the contexts. Inapplied linguistics, the definition of genre is staged, goal-oriented purposeful activities inwhich speakers involve as members of its culture (Martin, 1984). It has gone through agreat development with the focus on surface language description to deep explanation,which places much attention to the description of the higher level structure andorganization of spoken or written discourse (Bhatia, 1993).

However, few scholars payattention to the genre analysis of English introduction to university. This is the reason whythe author chooses this kind of promotional genre as the research focus, which couldenrich the exploration of such genre analysis on promotional text.
1.2 Objectives of the Study研究目标
In order to understand the distinction clearly, the author attempt to make thecomparison between university in china and U.S. in every aspects rang from the holisticcomparison to the comparison of schematic moves. Besides that, the lexical features ofeach move will be studied and some specific word will also be placed emphasis on.In this paper, the author attempt to compare the English introduction to university inChina with that in U.S., trying to identify the distinctions as well as the similarities.Meantime, the author also compares the University of Arts with university of
Science. Themain purpose of this study will be given as followed:1) Exploring the typical distinction between university introduction in China and U.S.in holistic and specific, including the use of vocabulary, phrase, and the meaningexpression.2) Indentifying the similar feature Chinese university and American university sharewith each other.3) Analyzing the potential distinction between arts and science through thecomparison of keyword and vocabulary frequency.4) Figuring out the differences of lexical chunk in each schematic move by analyzingeach move.5) Trying to find out some deep reasons of the differences and provide some usefuland feasible suggestions for the English introduction composition.To sum up, the main focus of this paper is to explore the underlying distinction ofideology through analyzing the surface-level vocabulary and deeper-level structure, andtry to offer some advice for the English introduction composition as well as some othersimilar writing. In other word, the present paper attempts to figure out the majordifferences and answer the questions as followed:1) What are the main features of the genre of English introduction in vocabulary andmove structure?2) What are the differences and similarities between the English introductions touniversity in China and U.S.? Why do such kinds of differences exist and what are thedeep reasons for the differences?3) What are the features of each move in the aspect of vocabulary and structure?4) What can be learnt from the study and how it brings help for the composition ofsimilar genre?
