all to serve God. “God and nature intended you for a missionary’s wife. It is not personal, but mental endowments they have given you; you are formed for labor, not for love. A missionary’s wife you must----shall be. You shall be mine I claim you---not for my pleasure, but for my Sovereign’s service”(p394). Jane could refuse to be a mistress because she knew it not right, but she could not see anything wrong in her cousin’s religion at first. She almost agreed to be his wife under his powerful prayer. “I could decide if I were but certain, were I but convinced that it is God’s will I should marry you. Here and now-----come afterward what I would!” The call from Rochester released Jane from St.John’s influence and then”…I prayed in my way---a different way to St’ John’s, but effective in its own fashion. I seemed to penetrate very near a Mighty Spirit; and my soul rushed out in gratitude at His feet” (p425). Here Jane did not worship God after others; instead, she has her opinion of her own and adhere to it. Because she doesn’t believes in marriage without love, because she still loves Rochester deeply.
Jane at last has a satisfactory marriage due to her persistent pursuit and noble characters. Jane comes back to Thronfield Hall, only to find it in ruins. People tell her what has happened. She mixes with sadness and gaiety when Rochester appears before her eyes. Knowing that Rochester’s wife has died in the fire, Jane decides at once to marry Rochester. When in Marshend Jane has got a large sum of heritage, she says proudly, “I am an independent woman now.” “I am my own mistress.” Financial independence promotes her completely independence in the end. Rochester’s misfortune can remove nothing off Jane’s love. Jane has said that if God had gifted her with some beauty and much wealth. She should have made it as hard for Rochester to leave him. What she has said becomes true. They are united, and their marriage based on true love, harmony of spirit, and mutual equality of personality brings them endless happiness. Jane finally finds her happy land both of material and spirit; where she deliberately cultivates her hope, her love and her life.
3. Realistic meaning
Jane is very different from the women around her, she is especially for her appearance but for her character. She didn’t judge a person according to their appearance. She makes deeply friendship with Helen and Miss Helen’s passive and gloomy attitude to the oppressors, so she tells Helen, I must resist those who punish me unjustly, it is as natural as that should love those who show me affection, or submit to punishment when I feel it is deserved! Apart from up class Miss Ingram, she is pale, short and small, mediocre and reasons she doesn’t have romantic making. In the first part of century, at that time in England, women were discriminated and conceived as people inferior to men. Jane was an outstanding woman’s declaration of independence and love. She thinks love has no class, status, power and money. She is so braved that she declares to fall in love with her mater Rochester. She refuses to marriage without love. It is very easy to choose one’s own love in today’s England. But it wa s not so easy to do like this in 18th and 19th England. The turn of Jane Eyre made us a new sight. Only the independence of economy is the fully independence in life. We should learn from Jane Eyre. This is what the modern women should learn.
Conclusion
Jane Eyre was typical and magnifice
