2.1 The Curriculum Ideology and Politics

2.1.1 Definitions of the Curriculum Ideology and Politics

The concept of'curriculum ideology and politics'was originated from theShanghai Municipal Party Committee and the Government's ComprehensiveEducation Reform Plan issued and implemented in 2014,which was planned to takethe lead in comprehensive education reform nationwide.Some universities inShanghai have achieved good results in conducting ideological and politicalexperiments in their courses till now.

In December 2016,President Xi Jinping stressed at the National Conference oncurriculum ideology and politics that'education should focus on cultivating morality,and carry out ideological and political education throughout the entire process ofeducation and teaching to achieve all-round development for the students.'

The'English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)'points out that with the comprehensive popularization of compulsory education,theeducational demand has shifted from'having to learn'to'having to learn well',andit is necessary to further clarify'whom to cultivate people for,what kind of people tocultivate,and how to cultivate them'.(Ministry of Education,2022)Middle schoolstudents are at a critical stage of forming their outlook on life,and curriculumideology and politics must be fully reflected in middle school English teaching.

2.2 Learning Motivation

2.2.1 Definitions of Learning Motivation

The word motivation is derived from Latin,it means'moving'or'influencingaction'.In psychology,motivation refers to a kind of psychological state,which is aninternal motivation for individuals to initiate and maintain their own behavior.(Woodworth,1918)Learning motivation is the main driving force for stimulatingEnglish language learning,it subsequently maintains a long-term and tedious learningprocess.(Locke,E 1996)

Skehan(1999)believes that learning motivation is the strongest influencingfactor for learning outcomes,second only to learning ability.In Keller's(2002)attribution model,motivation is regarded as'an inner process or state,it can movepeople to a particular action and make the action develop towards people's goals.'Professor Dennis Coon(2004)believes that motivation is a psychological motivationgenerated by individuals when engaging in various activities due to their internalneeds or a certain driving force from the external environment.Chen Xinzhong et al.(2017)believes that motivation refers to the internal process of triggering individualactivities,maintaining the already initiated activities,and guiding the activitiestowards a certain goal.
