1.2 Features of the Source Text

Reiss (2004), the founder of functional translation theory, pointed out that the translator’s understanding of the features of the text will affect the translation, and understanding the features of the source text can help the translator determine translation strategies, analyze the important and difficult points in translation, and better understand the meaning and information of the source text. There are three features exist in the selected text:

First, the selected text is informational text. According to Newmark (1988), texts can be classified into three categories based on their communicative functions: expressive texts, vocative texts, and informative texts.
