Little Ice Age brought not only a drop in temperature, but also a shortening of the growing season for plants, a reduction in food production but an increase in grain prices. It was also a period of high incidence of riots, death and dynastic change, as food production declined and grain prices rose, causing famine and plague around the world as what Shakespeare represented in King Lear. That tells that good natural ecological environment plays an important role in the construction of order of social ecology and spiritual ecology. 

Chapter 6 Conclusion

Shakespeare’s works have a timeless appeal and are of great importance to the construction of human morality and ethics. The edification values and ethical and moral ideas contained in his plays still serve as inspirations and warnings to the world today. And Professor Nie refers to theatre as an ethical story performed on stage which can give us many ethical reflections (2014: 7).Therefore, King Lear, called a model of modern Western ethics because of its richness in ethical and moral philosophy, is compatible with ethical literary criticism and worth being scrutinized its profound ethical teachings and warnings. In this thesis, through the ethical criticism of the three dimensions: political ethics, gender ethics and ecological ethics in the text, the ethical ideas presented in the narrative of the work and the moral power embedded in the reasons for the ethical choices made by the characters in the face of ethical dilemmas in the ethical scene are uncovered. 

Taking political ethical criticism as a study perspective is helpful to explain ethical choices made by them and gain moral enlightenment from the subversion and disorders. King Lear criticizes the political systems of the succession to the throne and hereditary titles, and England has always adhered to the two principles of blood and the law of primogeniture. In the play, Lear chose the youngest daughter as his successor and Edmund, the illegitimate son, used a ruse to gain the title, both of which are subversive of the political system of legal succession. Ethical disorders comes from the subversion of ethical identities of characters in the play. King Lear even divides the country into three, in the name of avoiding future disputes between the heirs, but this leads to a chaotic situation where the country is divided against his will. Shakespeare mused on the contradictions arising from the political systems with traditional ethics.
