2.2 Review of Translation of Images in Shakespeare’s Works
Image is an essential element in literary work (Guan,2011). Culture-loaded images have rich connotations, so a lot of scholars devote to the study on images, which are revealed in literary works, such as poem, fiction or drama and have research value. As we all know, Shakespeare was intensely interested in and observant of daily things or events in country and that his senses were abnormally acute and responsive.(Spurgeon,1935:15) Therefore, Shakespeare’s works have been taken many nature images and animal images. It appeals that lots of scholars use one or more images in Shakespeare’s works to research the translation of image. In view of the previous studies on the translation of image, the translation of image in Shakespeare’s works is divided into two parts. One is that one image is fully interpreting in one or more Shakespeare’s plays. Usually the image is also called dominating image, whose culture connotation and background penetrate in the play plot. The other is that several images have been revealed in a play of Shakespeare, in which these images all serve for the play simultaneously and advance the plot of the play. According to this categorization, literature review on the translation of image of Shakespeare works are as follows.
