Chapter 1 Task Description
1.1 Selection of the Source Text
Scientific research is the objective, neutral, systematic, planned, and multiple-step process that uses previously discovered facts to advance knowledge. After reading different types of books recommended by the supervisor, the translator selected the book Understanding Research: A Consumer’s Guide, which was written by Vicki L. Plano Clark and John W. Creswell. This is an introductory book designed to help readers who plan to be research consumers learn to understand and evaluate research reports so they can better apply the results of research to their knowledge base and professional practices. The translator completed the translation of the third chapter of this book, showing how to understand research problems in quantitative and qualitative research. Here are some reasons for choosing it.
Firstly, this book has great value in terms of understanding research, solving practical problems and evaluating research quality. It contributes to helping readers distinguish different research reports so they can advance in their professional field. The research problems and scientific methods are further explored in the third chapter. In addition, the problem statement is identified and its quality in a research report is evaluated. This is why this was chosen as the translation material for this report.
It is also found that the selected source text has not yet been translated. The translator has an incredibly keen interest in scientific research, particularly research views on linking scientific research and scientific methods. The translation of this book aims to help Chinese readers understand research reports, research frameworks and terminology to enable them to explore rules in their professional base.
1.2 Introduction to the Source Text
The source text, Understanding Research: A Consumer’s Guide, was published in 2014. The authors of this book are professional and influential. Vicki L. Plano Clark actively applies a variety of research approaches in research and evaluation studies in the areas of education, family research and counseling psychology. John W. Creswell has authored numerous articles on mixed methods research, qualitative methodology and general research design, and many of the books focus on the comparisons of different qualitative methodologies.
The book consists of six parts with fourteen chapters. The source text is a comprehensive introduction to help students understand research articles. After an introduction to research in Part I, Parts II–VI present how to understand Introduction, Method, Results, and Conclusion of research articles with using different research approaches.
The third chapter in part two was chosen as the material for this translation practice report. Chapter Three presents statements of the problem: Identifying Why a Study Is Important? It introduces (a) the statement of the problem in a research study, (b) study research problems, (c) the types of research problems found in quantitative and qualitative studies, (d) the elements of a study’s statement of the problem, (e) what you’ve learned to do, (f) research articles, (g) understanding re本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
