ills like listening, speaking, reading as well as writing in the process of English learning .(吕飞飞.2001(2):21) self-confidence has effect on students’ selection, acceptance and preparation of learning situation in the process of English learning. Meanwhile, it influences students’ insistence and emotion as an English learner. In teaching, the self-confidence of students can be shown in the following aspects. First, they believe in their English ability. That is to say, they hold the view that through efforts they can finish tasks successfully and can improve their English oral ability. Second, they can consciously choose the challenging tasks which are a little more difficult for their normal level. Third, they can consciously get over the disturbing feelings caused by temporary difficulty and failure, and insist on making efforts. Fourth, they offer helps to others, participate in the discussion on English questions and so on.
Self-confidence is closely related to foreign language teaching. At present, in China, English is the main foreign language taught intensively in schools, colleges and universities. As senior school plays an important role in educational system in China, English teaching plays equivalent important role in senior school. Senior school student is a special group. Every one of them is minor with immature body, thought and mentality.
From what has been discussed above, we can safely draw a conclusion that self-confidence is a necessary factor in the process of English learning. Thus the author of this paper attempts to make a research to know what factors have influence on the cultivation of students’self-confidence, and then make some suggestions to both teachers and students.
3. The Research Design
In order to guarantee the reality and reliability of the data, instances appearing in the thesis, I make the research. The study is conducted in two forms: Survey and interview
3.1 The survey
3.1.1 The subject

They are surveyed respectively in different groups according to different disciplines (science60, arts60). All attendant students, whose age ranges from fifteen to seventeen, are required to fill in a questionnaire with personal information concerning prior learning experience in school and they are all willing to do so.
3.1.2 The Instrument
The instrument employed to collect data is a questionnaire which consists of twenty questions. Each of the questions set is based on the actual state of present senior school student. Each of the subjects is supposed to respond to each question by choosing one condition. The content of the twenty questions involves in many aspects, such as English learning foundation, personal character, interests, motives, tactics, method, attitude. Data are gathered on the basis of the total score gained for each of the aspects. Any aspect gaining the highest score is considered having the closest relationship with the cultivation of self-confidence of senior school student.
