nstead of “adverbial noun”. Wang li (1995) called the classifier as “unit noun”. Wang Li (1995: 89) compared the collocation of the numerals and the nouns in modern Chinese with those in ancient Chinese and concluded that “in modern Chinese, nearly each number is linked to the nouns it modifies by a noun indicating the unit, such as ‘一个人’, ‘几句话’. We call the words ‘个,只,件’ as unit nouns”. Although Zhang Zhigong (1956) separated the classifier from the noun, he believed that the numeral should be used together with the classifier and called the combination of the two as “numeral classifier word”. In addition, Chen Wangdao (1980) denied the idea of Li Jingxi about the classifier and named the classifier as “Jibiao”. Gao Mingkai (1986) has his own opinion about the classifier. In his book he called the classifier as “digital word”. He believes that in Chinese, if a numeral will be added to a noun, a function word has to be put in between the numeral and the noun to indicate the property represented by the noun. Such as, “一朵花”, “一条鱼” and so on. And those function words can be called as “digital words” because their function is to help to explain the unit and feature of entities.

Chapter Five Results and Discussion
This chapter will present the results obtained from the data collected before and make a discussion of the reasons behind these results. First of all, the similarities of the classifier- emotion noun collocations between English and Chinese will be presented, supported by the data collected from CCL and COCA respectively. And then the differences will be illustrated by supporting data. In the end, this paper will discuss the reasons behind the similarities and differences. Emotion is a common spiritual experience of human Beings no matter what language human beings speak. Actually, emotion is not as intangible and difficult to study as we think in that one’s emotions are expressed through languages, which are the former’s embodiment. Lv shuxiang (1944) said in his Essentials of Chinese Grammar that the quality or statement cannot be counted and for example, we will say 深红 instead of 一个红. Since the difference of the degree amounts to the difference of numbers, the quality can b
