1.2 Purpose and significance of the study
Emotions  are  produced  in  the  course  of  human  beings’  reforming  the  world.  The  words  implying emotions  are  the  precious  assets  of  the  human  history  and  cultures.  However,  due  to  different  living surroundings,  cultural  backgrounds  and  other  reasons,  different  countries  express  the  common  human emotions by means of different methods. By looking into and making a comparison of the collocation of emotion nouns and classifier between English and Chinese, human beings’ conceptualization of the abstract emotions and even the world will be further illustrated. In addition, although the classifier studies enjoy a long history, this study can provide classifier studies a new perspective and may contribute a little to the prosperity of classifier studies. Finally, this study is beneficial for the second language teaching in that with a clearer understanding of the similarities and differences between Chinese and English, second language teacher  can  impart  their  knowledge  to  students  more  efficiently  while  the  learners  can  be  easier  to assimilate the knowledge. This study contributes to cognitive linguistics in the ways that it offers a comparative analysis of the Chinese and English classifiers within the scope of cognitive linguistics together with a bundle of evidence. This  study  also  reinforces  the  claim  that  our  understanding  is  grounded  in  bodily  experience  and  daily knowledge. What’ more, It facilitates the developments of computer linguistics and helps to enhance SLA studies.  This paper will reinforce language studies based on the shared and different properties of English and Chinese languages and attempt to reveal the way we perceive and experience and conceptualize the world through the usage of classifier constructions in these two languages.

Chapter Two Literature Review 

The classifier- emotion noun collocation is a special case of the collocation of noun and classifier, so this chapter first presents a general introduction to emotion and emotion nouns, including their definitions and classifications. An overview of classifiers in English and Chinese will also be given in this chapter, including  its  definition,  classification  and  the  relevant  features.  In  addition,  this  chapter  includes  the previous studies of the collocation as a linguistic phenomenon.

2.1Previous studies on emotion and emotion nouns  

In modern times, the scientific researches begin to turn to the inner world of human beings; therefore, as an indispensable part of the human’s inner world, emotions, as well as emotion nouns directly signifying the emotions, are gradually becoming a heated topic of researchers. Till now, there are many studies on the emotion and emotion nouns.   The emotion is one of the unique features of human beings.
