used for linguistic analysis. Corpus provides basic resources for corpus linguistics. The emergence of corpus promotes the research of collocation, thus making the research of semantic prosody possible. There are large amounts of corpus available, including different languages and diverse classifications, such as COCA, COHA, and CCL, which may benefit the present researches on languages. The concept ―collocation has been used since the 18th century. According to Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics, it is described as ―the fact that words co-occurred frequently was noticed in Biblical concordances (Krishnamurthy, 2008: 596). However, it is widely accepted that J. R. Firth, father of collocation, has brought up the concept of ―collocation firstly in modern linguistics. Since Firth (1957: 12) in 1950s offered the following definition, ―collocations of a given word are statements of the habitual or customary place of that word, which has been widely accepted by corpus linguists, and the studies on collocation have sprung up. Thus collocation becomes the hot topic in present corpus linguistics. Mc Intosh (1967: 230) brought out the idea of ―collocational range, and thought every word item had its own collocational range.

2.2 Research on Semantic Prosody
Semantic prosody was one of the most significant contributions in corpus linguistics so far (Sinclair, 2003: 178), opening up a new horizon for corpus linguistics research. It is of great significance to catch underlying semantic meanings by understanding the combination and relationship of semantic prosody. The notion of semantic prosody arising from corpus linguistics and reflecting the realization that lexical items were habitually associated with particular connotations (Louw, 1993; Siepmann, 2005; Sinclair, 1991; Stubbs, 1995) and had attracted considerable attention since its advent in the early 1990s. The term ―prosody, coined by Firth (1957), traditionally referred to the phonological coloring spreading beyond segmental boundaries. Semantic prosody, also termed as semantic harmony or semantic association, is a new word coined by Sinclair, the chief editor of Collins-COBUID English dictionary, inspired by Firth‘s notion of phonological prosody. Sinclair found that ―many uses of words and phrases show a tendency to occur in a certain semantic environment (Sinclair, 1991: 112). Later the idea is accepted by many
