本文是一篇英语教学论文发表,笔者认为创新思维能力培养需要一种载体,而读后续写作为一种写作新题型,能够很好地考查学生的写作能力,也能体现学生的创新性思维能力。读后续写要求学生在阅读的基础上,结合自身已有知识,打破常规,写出具有创新性的表达或观点,与既有文本衔接连贯,完写作任务。

Chapter 1 Introduction

1.1 Background of the Research

In recent years, basic education has placed emphasis on cultivating thinking qualities and they are highlighted in standards of specific subject course. The National English Curriculum for Senior High School (2020) stresses the significance of thinking quality in English teaching. The thinking quality refers to the ability of logical, critical, and creative thinking, and it is one of the key competencies of the English subject. Among these three thinking abilities, creative thinking ability is the most important one but difficult to cultivate. Therefore, the cultivation of creative thinking ability should be integrated into the current foreign language teaching process to foster creative talent. The development of creative thinking helps to enhance students’ ability to analyze and solve problems, thereby making correct value judgments about things.

As a new type of college entrance examination, continuation writing was first introduced into the new college entrance examination in 2016 and was experimented in provinces such as Zhejiang, Shandong, Guangdong, and Hainan Province. It combines reading and writing to test students’ ability of understanding and expression, which require students to possess certain thinking qualities, especially creative thinking abilities. The biggest advantage of this type lies in the combination of imitation and creativity, which not only enhances the students’ imagination but also improves their ability to accurately use foreign languages (Wang Chuming, 2012). Teachers need to guide students to explore themes through language, encourage them to closely grasp the main idea and connotation of the story, unleash their imagination, create reasonable and unexpected endings, and develop their creative thinking (Yuan Danchun, 2022). The content that students continue to write can evaluate their deep reading abilities and test their language abilities in expression. In addition, it can also reflect the creative thinking ability of students, thereby better selecting high-quality talent.

1.2 Purpose of the Research

According to the NECS (2020), students should acquire the four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as the ability to think from different perspectives, to cultivate high-quality creative talent. In recent years, most researches have focused on college students, but neglected the development of high school students’ creative thinking. In fact, the high school years is vital to cultivate students’ thinking, and continuation writing is one of the most important ways to improve them. Therefore, this research intends to analyze the continuation writing of teachers through student questionnaires and interviews among teachers and students, aiming to understand the current situation of cultivating students’ creative thinking in the continuation writing of senior high school English teachers in Henan Province, discover possible problems, and analyze the causes of these problems based on the constructivism teaching theory, input hypothesis, output hypothesis and interactive and collaborative theory.
